Overview of the cold

So we're briefly back in SF from Quebec, and I wanted to show you some more photos of Alec enjoying himself in the cold. He loved playing in the snow, especially throwing snowballs and sliding around. brrrrrr.....

We also went snowshoeing several times, pulling Alec on the sled. On the sled, he had the tendency to fall asleep, which was pretty funny, since he would slide down onto his back. You can see a little film that N. took in the earlier post.

Sunny day on the back porch

He also got to know his grandparents' house very well, since he barely left it for two entire weeks. Pretty difficult for a California kid to be cooped up that long, but he had wonderful toys and playmates to keep him busy. Raymond, N's dad, made him a great little truck to ride on - he loved it!

These past few weeks it seems like he is developing rapidly - trying out new sounds, learning new things (pushing the chair next to the bookcase so that he can climb onto the chair and throw down the books and CDs from the higher shelves, closing doors, getting his shoes when he wants to go outside). Just as exciting, though, is that he is finally eating a bit more - foie gras and salmon, cheddar cheese, pears seem to be favorites. I'll leave you with a happy little man in his high chair:

Alec en traineau

Nous profitons d'une journée un peu plus chaude (-4C = 24F) pour aller faire un grand tour sur la berge, jusqu'au quai de St-Laurent.

Deuxième première neige

Alec avait déjà connu la neige, l'an dernier, mais il ne s'en souvient pas.

Dès son arrivée à Québec il a eu la chance de faire un tour de raquette avec son grand-papa, sous une belle neige aux gros flocons légers.

Annual traditions

afternoon gardening, Alec has about 3 green tomatoes in his mouth,
and wouldn't give me back the shovel.

So we're heading past Alec's first birthday and that means that there are some holidays that he's experienced twice already, although he probably isn't conscious of this. For example - my birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and now the general winter holiday season, including the Corina, Mark, and Eva's 2nd annual holiday dinner last weekend.

They just moved into their new house about 6 weeks ago, and this was our first visit - very nice and comfortable. This year the little ones were much more active, including Alec, who was in fine form:
He's really perfecting his climbing skills!

Hanging out with Adair in her fancy dress

We got the kids to settle down for one of their periodic photo sessions on the couch.

And once they were in bed, settled in for a delicious multicourse dinner. And some wine.
Needless to say, we all slept in on Sunday...
